Tässä menetelmässä esiintyy kaksi tapausta.
Tapaus 1: Milloin N< K jokaiselle luvulle i N >= i >= 1 antaa tulokseksi i, kun operoidaan modulolla K. Vaadittava summa on siis ensimmäisen N luonnollisen luvun N*(N+1)/2 summa.
Tapaus 2: Milloin N >= K silloin kokonaisluvut 1:stä K:hen luonnollisessa lukujonossa antavat tulokseksi 1 2 3 ..... K - 1 0 käytettäessä modulo K:tä. Samoin K + 1 - 2K tuottaa saman tuloksen. Ajatuksena on siis laskea kuinka monta kertaa tämä sarja esiintyy ja kertoa se ensimmäisten K - 1 luonnollisten lukujen summalla.
